My Story
In 2004 my wife and I purchased a timeshare while on vacation in Hawaii. The resort rep offered us free show tickets if we sat through a 90 minutes presentation that lasted 5 hours! After the presentation and a few drinks later, we walked out with a timeshare contract. My wife is a school teacher and can only vacation at certain times of the year. Our first year we owned it, reality hit us when we tried to make reservations and quickly found out we couldn’t get Hawaii and was offered Wisconsin Dells instead. We had banked our time and paid to keep from losing our time. Fast forward 7 years after we made the initial purchase, our maintenance fees went from $800 a year to $1500, which was not the vacation we signed up for!
Finally, we decided to get rid of the timeshare through the listing, renting, and advertising and lost probably $5,000 with every company that said they could help us with no avail. We then reached out to a timeshare attorney and paid approximately $6,000 to cancel the contract, not to mention the $34,000 we spent to make the initial purchase in Hawaii. So in total, we spent a little over $46,000 and never took a vacation. And that’s not including all of the maintenance fees.
At that point, I thought there has to be a better way to cancel timeshare contracts. We then partnered with multiple timeshare attorney’s to create No Attorney Timeshare to help timeshare owners to cancel their contract without paying very high attorney’s fees.
